THE PROCESS OF INDIGO DABU HANDBLOCK PRINTING
- Dabu handblock printing is an age-old mud resist dyeing technique. It starts with preparing the fabric for printing with several washes.
- The process involves using a hand-carved wooden block to stamp the mud resist paste onto the fabric. The paste is a mixture of wheat chaff and gum among other things.
- The fabric is then submerged in an indigo bath made of natural dyes and the areas covered with the paste resist the indigo.
- This is then followed by drying the fabric out in the sun and then finally washing it several times to get rid of the excess.
The combination of dabu printing and indigo dyeing creates a unique and stunning effect. Each indigo blue dress is a unique piece of art, with no two dresses being exactly the same. These dresses are made by skilled artisans using traditional techniques passed down through generations. The result is an indigo dyed dress that is not only beautiful but also sustainable, as it is made using natural materials and techniques that minimize environmental impact.

DOES INDIGO DRESS RUN COLOUR?
It's characteristic of indigo dye to run colour over time. The nature of indigo dye is such that it does not penetrate the fabric fibres evenly. Hence, the dye can sometimes be rubbed off, causing it to run colour. This colour run is harmless and does not fade the garment. Indigo dyes do not take harsh light, heat, and moisture well. This can cause the dye to break down and run colour. So, keep them away from extreme weather conditions.
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR INDIGO DRESSES?
These dresses are beautiful and make for a versatile outfit. However, yourindigo dyed dressneeds proper care to remain vibrant and beautiful for many years. Follow these simple steps:
- Wash infrequently and separately in cold water.
- Avoid exposure to harsh sunlight and high moisture while drying.
- Always flat dry on a hanger, in shade.

- Avoid rubbing or scrubbing indigo-dyed fabrics.
